The Justice System is a Joke

I said what I said. Don't ask me any clarifying questions. Don't ask me if I really mean it. Yes, I believe the justice system is a joke.

Take the following from my hometown:

A Poland doctor was sentenced Wednesday for hitting and killing an Akron man in a fatal boat crash on the Berlin Reservoir.
Mahoning County Judge John Durkin sentenced Dr. Joseph Yurich to 10 days in jail, plus 90 days of house arrest and five years of probation. He must also provide 200 hours of community service — medical care — to those at the Rescue Mission.
Yurich will have to pay a $1,000 fine and lose his driver’s license for 45 days. After that, he’ll have occupational driving privileges.
“I’m certain some may say that you were given preferential treatment because you’re a doctor…Quite frankly, if you have the opportunity to save even one life while on community control as a result of this sentence, I believe that to be justice,” Judge Durkin said.

So, you mean to tell me a doctor who recklessly killed someone is only sentenced to 10 days in jail, but if I live in a poor neighborhood and send my kid to a school in a more affluent neighborhood, I can be sentenced to jail for a longer amount of time. So "stealing" a better education is a worse offense than KILLING A WHOLE HUMAN BEING....get the f out of here with that. Showing more how being affluent helps when dealing with the justice system. And this is about economic privilege, not race. Look at Ray Lewis- his money helped him get off from being involved with two murders. OJ Simpson. P.Diddy. So again, not about race, but money. What will the justice system be for our poor families, a system of true justice, or a system that keeps them down and in the cycle of poverty?

  1. The justice system is a joke. Just look at legalized marajuana. You know how many African American young men are incarcerated for selling weed? But now since the system has taken notice of how much money can be made from selling it (medicinal, right?), you can now go to your local urban-ish weed store and purchase all you want from a seller who will have no consequence of selling it. Now, when these young men are released from prison for selling weed, but now want to go into the "legal" business of selling weed, they can't because they have a felony. Hmmmmm.... a joke is an understatement.

  2. A poor use of Judge's discretion in sentencing. That the conviction was on a misdemeanor made the punishment predestined to look lenient, but the lack of time given is hard to justify on the facts.
