Blackboard
and Moodle have been adequate as a graduate student and as an adjunct undergrad
instructor. They have allowed me to tranfer information and assignments to my professors and to my students. However, I do not see them
as attractive tools to use in the k-12 environment, but I love the blended
learning concepts. One of the platforms
that I remember hearing a teacher in my building speak about (and some in this
corhort) was Google Classrooms. Google Classroom is a blended learning
platform developed by Google for schools that aims to simplify creating,
distributing and grading assignments in a paperless way.
Acccording
to Stephanie Condon (Zdnet.com) , “Since
Google Classrooms launched three years ago, students have submitted more than 1
billion assignments…and more than 70 million people are using G Suite for
Education”.
How do you use Google Classroom?
I personally didn't use classroom for two reasons. 1) My district places a bigger emphasis on another platform Schoology, not Google Classroom. 2) I am still pretty old school when it comes to papers; I prefer a hard copy to grade! I know submitting papers online creates less paperwork and a better paper trail (kids can NOT lie about papers in google docs because I am able to see all of the edits), but I find I can easily forget about papers that are not in front of me. If I were still in the classroom this year, I might try to incorporate classroom more, but more would me like an assignment or 2.
